Holding Period

Holding Period is the length of time an investor owns a security or an acquirer owns an asset before selling or otherwise disposing of it. In venture and private equity, Holding Period affects realized vs. unrealized returns and tax treatment, and Holding Period assumptions are a key input to IRR calculations.
