Independent Contractor

An Independent Contractor, as opposed to an employee, is a person or entity that provides goods or services to a business under terms specified in a contract. One of the main indicators as to the classification is the control that the business has over the person in question. Also important are the nature and longevity of their work, and the contract itself. The distinction between employee and Independent Contractor is important because the classification can have significant legal and tax consequences.
