Haircut

A Haircut is a valuation or collateral discount applied to an asset to reflect risk, illiquidity, volatility, or uncertainty in realizable value. In credit, venture debt, and repo-style financing, a Haircut reduces the amount a lender will advance against collateral, and the Haircut increases when markets or asset quality deteriorate.
